1) Cloud-based Mobile Gaming Applications

This has been one of the major sources to attract gaming community to download their app while being cost-efficient at the same time. Cloud-based mobile games make lots of things possible simultaneously such as multi-players, seamless integration with social media and hence, a favorable choice as developers are able to give more attention to the design aspect while cloud deals with all the other essential things.

2) Socially Adaptive Mobile Gaming Apps

Social media is not limited to sharing posts, blogs, pictures, videos, etc but has become an innate part of everyday’s life activities including the games we all play. With everything being connected to Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp, Instagram and Snapchat at the very least, mobile app games are no exception. The gigantic mobile gaming apps create the need for immersive players and an outreach social engagement so that players could show their achievements through share options that allow them to post about their game performance.

Even the offline and asynchronous gaming apps have found their existence and have shown the tremendous scope of development. Many of these apps are likely showing promising future. They provide a safe & secure connectivity and non-competitive experience.

3) Augmented Reality (AR) And Virtual Reality (VR)

Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) has already paved the way for the giant leap in the gaming industry. The technology is here and most likely to remain and break the floor and expand by developing into interactive games. Location-based technology has already gained momentum into becoming the prime factor in the gaming industry. Geo-location based games can hugely be financially benefited by branding or product based partnerships. In fact, a game developer can well adeptly use this technique to make the game more interactive.

The wide usage of wearable devices is inducing the use of AR tools in mobile apps. Because of this, mobile game developers are heavily depending on them to facilitate this tech generation with unique gaming apps.

4) Use Of Analytics

A constantly generated thorough statistical analysis of gaming data is much needed to break the financial barrier and unlock huge profits. This data usually is the analysis and bifurcated information to optimize the game performance and provide tailored experiences. Moving on it prompts a financial way depending on players’ in-game behaviours. Developing engaging games are much on the priority list so as to have a personalized player experience and so that players can positively respond to it via in-app purchases and ad consumption.

Conclusion

As compared to other app industry sectors, the gaming industry is gaining popularity and expanding at an exponential rate. Every now and then, there is a new addition to games with new features to add excitement and challenges to skilled players who quickly adapt to latest trends. The gaming industry is one hell of a mobile app segment to look forward to amazing future.

Technology has penetrated into businesses, just not only to optimize the automation process in manufacturing, packaging etc but also now in enhancing the marketing and driving sales strategy. A huge surge has been spotted in large organizations and huge enterprises grabbing their sweepstakes profit through their company’s own mobile apps. In fact, most of having noticed that even small businesses like your corner grocery store to downtown coffee shop are all alluring, engaging and finding innovative interacting solutions in everyday life to attract more customers and hence drive more sales through their business’ dedicated mobile app.

Looking at the same metrics, if you are wondering why businesses need to build their own mobile app platform, take a glance at the following benefits:

Customer Visibility:

Gone are the days when customers had to rely on business operation hours in order to view products or to avail services. Average smartphone users spend around 2 hours a day on their phone. While operating, a user unlocks, scroll and perform many other tasks involving apps. Just at this point, your business app could make an impact with its visibility to make it work in your business advantage with a notification or message.

Direct Marketing:

Apps serve many functions like providing general information, product pricing, store location, booking forms, news feeds and many more. However, the best part is that with your app, you can attract your customers with special sales offer and promotions which in a way will act as a direct marketing channel between your app & customers. Push notification goes beyond a step further and acts as a direct interaction with new releases or products to your customer base.

These push notifications pave the way for you to have an open discussion, carry out market surveys and address their queries or concern, as and when needed.

Create Awareness:

One can also opt for introducing their business services & practices in a very unique, fun and innovative way corresponding to their business nature and target audience. For e.g, Starbucks offered directions to the nearest store, coffee recipes and reward for the early risers. You can also think of a way to introduce a service that parallelly explains your business service and also create some buzz among others.

Predictive Analysis:

Of course, your business app is a pool of information & data about your customers likes and dislikes of goods and/or services. Using your app as data collection tool, you can categorize the progress of products and services to either increase the sale of specific one or to focus on creating more awareness about the slow-selling goods and items.

Reward & Loyalty Programs:

Who doesn’t like to get something in return? Especially when it is gestured with being honest, trust and thankful. With so much of advertising influx in various ways only to project product and services sales, businesses might lose the impact and grip on customers. Hence, time to time, you have to giveaway certain rewards to encourage their loyalty and can retain valued customers. One can also start to digitize these loyalty programs and instead of giving away those point-collecting cards, you can easily reward via your mobile app. This will result in more downloads and more sales.

Attracting Millennials:

The younger generation of today is already comfortably learning App development since their early childhood. Integrating the use of mobile apps to drive customer satisfaction for these young generations will not only skyrocket the sales but also once connected with your business brand and reputation, will remain loyal customers for a longer period of time.

Improve Customer Engagement:

No matter you own a small corner store or a flower shop, you need to create a way and platform wherein your customers can reach you easily. Inducing your app with a messaging or help desk feature really makes a difference in your communication channel. Personalized message drafted by analyzing your customers spending behavioral pattern assures them that your business as a brand is attentive to their needs and hence builds the trust in your business.

We are habituated with it now and that’s a fact. Mobiles and smartphones have become one’s part of daily life. May it be getting acquainted with the latest news or fun-filled entertaining activities like listening to music, watching videos, playing games to merely finishing your pending office work like sending emails or reports, all these could be accomplished with the little device which can be encapsulated in one’s palm.

The sudden rise of this dependency on mobile technology, has given a gigantic push in the apps development industry and hence, the surge in mobile app development companies. These companies in the need to attract more clients to their portfolio and rake in profits on the financial grounds have to follow market trends by inculcating and implementing latest tools and technologies by providing niche services.

Thus mobile app development companies around the world are on a constant verge of trying to unfold new advanced technology in software and hardware components. App stores are experiencing such a massive number of app downloads which becomes the primary reason to believe that the year 2018 will see some of the promising new trends in mobile economic applications to increase their revenue by meeting customers demands.

As belonging to one of the established Mobile App Development Company, from Moon Technolabs we present you the latest mobile app trends that will mark its immense presence in 2018.

1) Augmented Reality (AR) & Virtual Reality (VR)

AR and VR technologies are used in creating real-life situations mostly in the entertainment and gaming industry which ultimately has brought a revolution in the way we experience and perceive. With Apple introduced ARKit and ARCore from Google, augmented reality apps for mobile devices will have a brand new face on these most known sturdy platforms. Games like Pokemon Go will influence marketers to provide the amazing compelling user experience. Moreover, VR devices like Google Cardboard and Samsung VR Gear are becoming more and more popular by the day.

2) Artificial Intelligence (AI)

AI’s contribution has inspired and enabled many exciting features in mobile apps like recommendation engines, personalized experience, and behavioral targeting which has opened the doors for new possibilities and hence, are favored by giant corporate institutions ranging from Construction to Coffee maker. Usually, AI can optimize the business process by providing powerful insights. Chatbots tools are powered by AI to stimulate human conversation, however, yet in the near future, we should be seeing the full potential of AI as there is a high demand of hiring experts from the same industry.

3) Wearable Apps

Smartwatches and other wearable technologies seem to have made the alternate reality come true of the technology market. So far these devices provide standalone features on its own, however, from time to time they still require some sort of support from device’s software to function well. There is a wide usage of wearable apps such as fitness, messaging, entertainment, etc. and users prefer wearable devices to be synchronized with their devices for the better access to the data. Wearable technology will see a much higher growth and rise in 2018 with most of its technological power yet to be discovered.

4) Lazy Loading & Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP)

To reduce the bounce rate because of the slow loading, Google initiated the AMP project wherein a lot faster and responsive mobile version of the web page is created. Alternatively, instead of allowing the user to wait for the whole page to load, the webpage can be displayed seamlessly – it is called as lazy loading. These both techniques can be used to speed the performance of mobile apps when the content is transmitted through the web. Importantly, these techniques have the changed the mobile app development scenario from the perspective of Web App and SEO. AMP has drastically paved the way for increasing user experience and hence, can be accounted as one of the most significant mobile app developments in the near future.

5) Cloud-Computing

The prime benefit of using cloud-driven apps is that such applications minimize the space usage of your device as it directly fetches all the required data from the cloud account. OneDrive, Dropbox, GoogleDrive are few examples of cloud-based apps. A report suggests that cloud apps ease the mobile traffic up to 90% of the total mobile data traffic and hence is efficient in processing heavy tasks in mobile. Importantly, cloud computing increases the reliability, speed, and security of mobile apps and allows optimum collection, storage & analysis of user data.

6) Mobile App Security

With the high-end usage of banking transaction and e-commerce shopping using mobile apps, it is utmost necessary to concentrate on mobile app security. In such cases, apps with built-in security measures can be a boon to the tech world. Primary concerns are insecure storage, misuse of confidential information and privacy violation of all such personal data has increased with the popularity of BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) policy. So far developers have been, but still, a more stringent approach to secure the app’s code is the dire need and can be listed as one of the emerging trend that can be observed in 2018.

7) Internet of Things (IoT)

IoT is so far on the highest verge of shaping mobile app development trends. Most of the time, IoT solution requires a specified allocated application to manage all the smart devices. Out of which mobile devices seems to be creating the perfect interface to interact with IoT enabled devices to synchronize data, especially in case of consumer IoT. Since, IoT allows the use of sensor technologies in non-IT devices which makes the mobile app development linked to IoT products has become an exciting area to keep an eye on. Building IoT related software has become the need of the hour and certainly presents itself as one of the fastest emerging trends of 2018.

8) Instant Apps

Another cut-throat trend which has made it to our list from most of the mobile app development companies is the ‘Instant Apps’, which was launched by Google as a new feature in Android devices. Users can actually use an android app without actually downloading it. The user can have a trial of the desired app from the app store and download it only if they feel the need and have the necessary storage. Few examples are Wish, Viki, Buzzfeed etc. are few who have taken the initiative to venture in Instant Apps. With out-of-the-box emerging trends, this one doesn’t seem to be left behind in 2018.

Since the world is on the go all the time, the last thing anyone needs on their plate is to worry about busy traffic or to look for a car parking space or merely spend on car repair. Hence, a tremendous surge and success in taxi or cab service industry.

What’s more thrilling is how this service is made to reach out to everyone with ease to book and complete a ride without having to own a car. Thanks to many such services such as Lyft, Zipcar, Hailo or Gett but the one sheer outperformer in car-rent or taxi service is Uber. Transport company capturing the market and targeting busy metropolitan cities & riders with mobile apps to let passengers book a taxi and hence acquire customer base in the process.

Uber’s success in cab hailing industry has paved the way for many other taxi apps and also following the footsteps in building an Uber-like app with an understanding of their business model, approach, and functionality. Let’s see what technology stack and how much it costs to develop an app like Uber, but first let’s understand a bit about Uber?

What is Uber?

Uber app is used to book a taxi. Uber operates in 375 cities of 77 countries with 80 million users. Uber app has been a real blessing for passengers as they can either instantly book a cab or schedule it for later with just one tap on the phone through Android, iOS, and Windows phone apps.

The Uber cab service is around 40-50% cheaper than traditional taxi cabs and even the response rate is quicker. Uber is not only for passengers to book a taxi but also for drivers to register and can earn. Hence, for drivers, Uber acts as referral service and created job opportunities.

Moreover, with its seamless app design & simple user interaction, great marketing campaign and minimal error reports, Uber has acquired a fair share of cab-hailing industry and others are following into the footsteps with slight modifications in the business model in same and other industry sectors.

How does Uber work?

The general working functionality of Uber app is shown in the following steps:

Step 1: Request

Customer places a request for instant taxi or schedule for later via the app. Respective details are sent to the nearest driver.

Step 2: Matching

The driver either accept or reject the ride. Upon rejecting, the request is sent to another driver.

Step 3: Ride

The customer can track the approaching taxi and its estimated time of arrival (ETA).

Step 4: Payment

The customer feels informed and more comfortable with cashless payment and knowing estimated ride fair.

Step 5: Rating

This is an important factor in Uber’s business approach and logic as it builds a positive reputation and also enhances service reliability.

Primarily, one has to keep in mind different features & functionality while building an Uber-like app. Uber actually consists of two separate components, viz Uber Driver App and Uber Passenger App.

Some of the passenger and driver interface features might overlap, however, each has its own importance and functionality. More importantly, it is hard to pin down the exact cost to build an Uber-like taxi app but based on the various factors such as app design & architecture, developer’s rate, feature-set & functionality, country, industry and many more related aspects.

Let’s take a peek at features of Passenger App and Driver App:

  • Register/Login: To manage personal information
  • Booking Interface: Fill details to book a taxi as you need such as pick-up & drop location, select car type, etc
  • Tracking: To track taxi/driver’s location, update ride information
  • Fare Calculator: To check the estimated cost of the ride and apply the discount if applicable
  • Payment: Cashless option via in-app, credit card or use just plain cash. A rider can also split the fare with a fellow traveler and can receive invoices through phone and email
  • Push Notifications: Helps in keeping the user updated on ride status, car details, ETA, etc.
  • Rate Ride Service: Provide feedback to the driver and/or rate taxi service

Features of Driver App:

  • Register/Profile: Register as a driver and update profile.
  • Online Status: Active/ Inactive driver status on the map. Also booking options to accept or reject any ride with info on customer’s location and other booking details
  • Push Notifications: Receive order alerts, booking data such as location, route, etc
  • Navigation: Using Google Maps or Places for optimal directions and route guidance

Technology Stack To Build Uber-like App:

There are three major aspects while developing a taxi app viz, Server, Mapping, and Payments. Since Uber has made their API available to the public, now it has been easier to build your own customized Uber-like app. Primarily, to handle and manage hundreds of user requests on a daily basis, the app has to be equipped with driver routes and servers.

COST:

The final cost of the taxi app is depended upon the use of features, functionality, and components put together in developing the said app. Many mobile app development companies across the world have different hourly rates ranging from $20-40 to $130-150. Hence, below we have discussed and tried to derive cost associated with the above-mentioned aspects by taking an average of $50 per hour. Let’s see them one by one.

1). Geolocation and Coverage: In order for users to find the car location, GPS technology is put to use with maps integration and positioning. Also to calculate distance and find routes, you need to have routing servers. When a customer clicks on the map to point pick-up location or track the real-time car movement or the route or direction, it’s Google Maps. On the other hand location services operated by Uber, iOS apps are driven by CoreLocation framework for region monitoring & MapKit framework for selecting routes and directions. While Uber Android apps use Google Location Services API for location and Google Maps Android API to perform route and direction search.

It would roughly require developers around 130 hours to integrate location & routing feature in your Uber-like taxi app. Based on the average price of development service, ‘Geolocation and Coverage’ should cost you approximately $6,500.

2).Payments: Today’s payment technologies have paved the way for easy and simple financial transaction gateways between all the concerned parties. Cashless in-app payment options via Stripe, Braintree, Paytm, PayPal is not only convenient for both passengers and drivers but also is safer & faster than paying through cash. Moreover, a passenger gets to know the estimated fare of the ride before placing a request.

If your company is going to provide financial service as a matter of storing and processing credit card information and data, you need to meet all the necessary and updated requirements known as PCI compliance.

Integrating payment gateway in your Uber-like taxi app is an in-depth and longer process. Hence, it will take around 125 hours to complete the process. Based on our basic hourly average rate of $50, ‘Payment Integration’ will cost you approximately $6,250.

3).Design: The design of your Uber-like taxi app will play a major role. As simpler and easier your app is to book a taxi, to locate and pay, the higher will be the acceptance and profit. Clear user interface and seamless user design app experience will make sure of smooth interaction with the customers.

The designing time could vary depending on how intense, a classy and appealing design you have in mind. But the average time starts from 50-120 hours. Hence, ‘Designing’ will cost you approximately $3,000 based on the 60 hours of average time for completion of the designing task.

4). Registration & Notifications: You could offer one-time user registration by sign-up or link through social media so as to make the booking procedure simpler every time user wants to book a taxi. Additionally, rating and feedback will definitely add points to increasing customer friendliness. This factor surely adds to improve quality of the service in all aspects. The time for registration and profile creation may take up to 130 hours

Tech stack for push notification is pretty straightforward. Google Firebase for Android and Apple Push for iOS phones. A necessary part of the taxi service industry is that you have to keep the user informed about driver’s information such phone number, taxi details such as registration number and any other such important notifications can be achieved via SMS, email and/or push notifications. For SMS, Uber went with Twilio, however, there are other communication channels also like Plivo, Nexmo, Tropo or Sinch. Including push notification and SMS integration, it might take around 70 hours of work in total.

Hence, the total time for registration and notification will be around 200 hours, which on the basis of $50 hourly rate will amount to $10,000.

Conclusion:

As we have calculated on the average base price, moderately one can take into account the total cost of an Uber-like taxi app could cost approximately $30,000 for iOS, $35,000 for Android and for the Native app, it will cost around $65,000.

They have completely revolutionized the way people shop and have created a new world of unlimited opportunities. More and more businesses are joining this bandwagon to create Mobile Commerce Apps that will serve as an extension of their brick and mortar business to reap the benefits of the online shopping space. Here we give you a list of factors you should plan and consider before you take the leap into developing an m-Commerce App for your business.

Choice of Mobile Platform

  • The first and basic decision you need to take is to decide which mobile platform you want your App to be developed. Android and iOS are the leading and widely used platforms all over the world. You need to consider various factors like your target audience, their demographics to choose the platform that will best serve your needs.
  • You need to also decide on which versions of the mobile platform you want to develop your App, as it is expensive and cumbersome to support older and multiple versions.
  • Make sure to design your Apps in such a way that they are responsive and offer the same UX when used on Tablets, Laptops or other digital devices.
  • Plan whether you want a Native App or whether you want to reap the benefits of multiple OS with a Cross-Platform App.

Do decide on the above points keeping in mind your need, budget, and time considerations.

App Design and features

Just having an idea of an App is not enough. You need to think through what are the features you need in your App and design it accordingly. How the UI looks, feels and navigates is a big product of this decision. Ensure that your App design is clean, crisp, easy to use, attractive, engaging, and smooth to navigate. Most importantly, it must satisfy that basic requirement of the user ending up shopping in your App.

Identify all the elements of UI, like the icons, the colors used, the style, the navigation, and the list of features and functionalities that it should have before you start.

Integrations

A lot of tools and features need to be integrated with your App for it to be successful.

  • Payment gateways are something that is critical to a Mobile E-commerce App. Be sure to choose one that is secure, easy to use and one that offers a variety of payment options.
  • Analytic tools that will capture user browsing and shopping patterns will give you an in-depth insight into their buying behavior. This will, in turn, help you to fine-tune your store and improvise on the present features.

Other Costs

  • It is important to allocate time, budget, and thought, for promotional and marketing activities that are necessary to advertise and optimize your Mobile App in the App Stores.
  • Marketing and Branding strategies like Paid Ads, Banners and App Store Optimization will ensure that your App has more visibility and downloads, directly contributing to your bottom-line.

Progressive Web Apps

Native apps have conquered the market as compared to web application. Native apps are faster than web apps. They always reside on the phone and effort to run a search every time like web page is saved. Web apps till now have been dependent on connectivity unlike native apps, where the basic data can be retrieved even offline. These are few of the major reasons in favour of native apps. Taking all the factors in account the Progressive web apps concept was introduced. These web apps possess all advantages of any native app and in fact can beat them in many prospects.

Let us first understand the basics of web app development on PWA. It broadly comprises of two components:

Web App shell Architecture

This architecture or design approach sets the base of Progressive Web Application. In simplest terms, the user interface is kept away or cached differently than the other internal interface. This results in quick loading of the web page which always has been a major challenge. This shell includes the minimal basic HTML, CSS and java script to empower the app with user interface and good performance. The User interface last browsed by any user is loaded into the cache. As the user reopens this app, the pages loaded on cache are immediately recalled and displayed. Later on the app only retrieves the new and necessary data,
Service Worker

Many of us can define it as ‘proxy’

The UI is stored in the cache using this service worker. It is a script that runs in the background and keeps a check on the network requests, notifications, connectivity and other factors. It serves as the main reason behind offline operation of Progressive web apps.

This unique design and architecture describe the Progressive web apps with a whole new set of features. Some of them are:

  • It is installable

Unlike general web apps, it can be installed on home screen.

  • Fast

Since the UI is stored in cache, any selection of app displays UI instantly within seconds.

  • Operable on different form factors

It can be installed and displayed full screen on devices of any form factor. Be it desktop, mobile or tablet.

  • Connectivity Independent

The cache option enables it to work independent of data connectivity. Without internet also the last saved status of the application can be seen.

  • Discoverable

It can be very easily searched on any search engine.

  • Safe

It uses HTTPS protocol which makes it safe from any external tampering.

  • Auto Update Feature

It updated automatically whenever connected online.

  • App-like experience

It is very fast and stable. This gives the user an app like experience.

  • Progressive

It can be used on any device and with any browser. It is created to use the best of available resources on the device.

  • Re-engage able

These are created to engage the customer to the maximum with help of notification and other features. The user will be tempted to re-visit the app.

Progressive Web Apps have reduced the steps in installing any app. No need to go to play store, search the app, download and install now. Any app associated with Progressive web app can be directly downloaded from it. These web apps once installed, appear as an icon on home page just like native apps. Will the efficient use of memory, user interface and quicker updates, they appear as a better replacement to native apps. It is reviving the old look of web pages with new and better user Interface. In times ahead, we are going to deal with only one type of app for any application serving the purpose of ease for the creators as well as consumers. It seems that Progressive Web Apps are the future of all types of apps.
